Merek’s instrument-making journey started in 2013, when he took a class with Walter Stanul at the SMFA in Boston. He’s since apprenticed with a lute maker in Turkey, a bow maker in Germany, and with renowned luthier Steve Connor on Cape Cod from 2017-2024.

Currently, Merek is the lathe manager at Twin Cities Maker. He teaches classes there and at the Edina Community Center.
